Sara Sadik – They will end up in ravines

The Moroccan- Algerian artist Sara Sadik employs a range of mediums to create coming-of-age stories that feature young men overcoming obstacles and seeking moral and physical transformation. Her videos incorporate elements of video games, science fiction, everyday life, and French rap music to portray her subjects’ struggles and aspirations. In her latest installation, “Ils finiront dans des ravins” (They Will End Up in Ravines), Sadik draws inspiration from gaming arenas to present a multi-screen narrative of protagonists who invent their own society and devise strategies to safeguard their environment. Through the characters’ words, Sadik explores themes of resistance, self-love, and community, while also critiquing systems of coercion and social exclusion.
